Aug 4 th-6 th 2006 . Colby , KS . –Nothing brings the rain in like the biggest race of Thomas County Speedway’s season. The 9 th annual F&M Insurance Modified Shootout became a 3 day affair after the rain caused there to be no green flag laps ran on Saturday night. Justin Boney won for the first time at Thomas County Speedway during the final day of the Thomas County Free Fair.
Modifieds
Justin Boney took advantage of an inside 2 nd row starting position to grab the lead shortly after the green flag dropped and held off a few challenges to win the F&M Insurance Modified Shootout. Boney fought off challenges from #51 Eddie Martin, the winner from 2 years ago, and his brother #222 Dustin Boney who finished 2 nd and 3 rd. #21 Darrin DeLoach winner of the shootout 3 years ago came in 4 th. #3d Dan Daniels who finished 3 rd in last years shootout finished in 5 th position this year. 1j Justin Boots, #3 Brady Coen, and #33r Mike Roach finished 6 th, 7 th and 8 th. #02 Tommy Weder came from the back of the pack after having problems to gain 18 positions and finishing 9 th. #18n Nate Schaben ended his first trip to Thomas County Speedway in 10 th place. 28 cars started the main event.
Stock Cars
For the second race in a row a driver has taken a car that he had not driven before and came out with a win. #44 driven by Wheat Lippelmann took the lead from #37 Jason Rogers with a few laps to go for the win. Rogers finished 2 nd with the top seven cars all in contention. #9 Randy Tipton was 3 rd. #3 Travis Towns came in 4 th. #01 Mike Meyer, #6 Jason Schoenberger and #25 Jeremey Blackwill finished 5 th, 6 th and 7 th. This was Schoenberger’s first time at the Thomas County Speedway. Schoenberger also ran in the modified class and with little practice finished 16 in the main. He was the only driver to do double duty in a modified and a stock car for the weekend.
Bombers
The Bomber class was run on Friday night and #25 Jeremey Blackwill won the biggest race of the season during the Thomas County Fair. As usual it was a great race for the win. Point leader #3m Brent Moss was a close second with #3rt and #72 Mike Nordyke right with them for 3 rd and 4 th place. #8 Brian Morris got a top 5 and #01w Clinton Hockersmith was on-hand for his first start at Colby this season and ran 6 th. Eighteen cars started the main.
Econos
The econo class had the best car count of the year with twelve cars starting the main. #3d Jeff Doty grabbed the top spot from #98 Matt Crouse on the last lap for the win. They had traded positions several times during the race. Crouse and #c3 Reed Burnbeck were racing at Colby for the first time this season and came away with great finishes of 2 nd and 3 rd. #06 Bryant Nemecheck had a fast car and was able to come from last place all the way up to 4 th. Point leader #31 Alex West rounded out the top five.
