May. 9, 2010 Colby , KS . –The season opened for the Thomas County Speedway on Sunday May 9th. Even though the weather was cold and windy the racing action was hot! David Murray Jr. has his first ever points lead at Colby, and a newcomer in the Hobby Stock ranks picked up his first win at Thomas County Speedway as well. The next races will be May 23rd at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you at the races!

Modifieds

David Murray Jr. #97m started the season off with a win and a possible track championship run as he has never run the full season at Colby before. Hopefully, with the points lead, we will get to see more of Murray in the future. He has over 400 Modified feature wins so he always puts on a show as he runs for the front of the pack. Brady Coen #3 didn’t get through traffic as well as Murray and had to settle for 2nd. Jason Schoenberger #6 continued to run well here at Colby and came in 3rd. Matt Morris #21m and Darren Deloach #21 ran 4th and 5th. Nate Moore and John Fose #27 finished 6th and 7th. Thirteen Modifieds were on hand.

Stock Cars

Dustin Daniels #33 picked up another win in the IMCA Stock car division with a great run from mid pack. Jason Rogers #37 started at the rear of the field and made up every position but the top spot and came in 2nd. Ryan Wark #8 had a good fight with Rogers but had to settle for 3rd. BJ Wagoner #51w and Wheat Lippelmann #68 battled all race and grabbed 6th and 7th. Bruce Plumisto was having a great run at the front of the field but had a mechanical issue and couldn’t finish the race.

Hobby Stocks

Michael Schamberger #55 had his first start at Colby and made a great impression with a win. Josh Latka had another strong run but had to settle for 2nd. There was a shake up for 3rd as Dalton Dolan finished 3rd but was found to have an illegal combination of tires and was disqualified. Richard Boon #33 was the beneficiary and was moved up to 3rd. Cody Williams #77 was having a great run but had a problem with his car on a restart. After dropping almost to the rear of the field, he made a great run back up through the field to grab 4th position. Jason Stephens #4j and Jake Blackhart fought it out for 5th and 6th. There were twelve Hobby Stocks on-hand.

Econos

Jeff Tubbs 37x pulled double duty running both the Stock class and the Econos, and got the win in the Econos. Chad Normandin #01 put up a good fight but couldn’t get the lead and finished 2nd.
