DeLoach gets first win of season.

June 4, 2006. Colby, Kansas --It was a great night for racing Sunday night at the Thomas County Speedway in Colby , KS . With the warm temperatures and a breeze from the North-East the track went from tacky to dry-slick for another new track condition at the third race of the season. Congratulation’s go out to William Dible for winning the Thomas County Amusement Association’s raffle RPM ticket package to Kansas Speedway. One more giveaway will be on September 3rd at the races.

Modifieds

The heat races proved to show the fastest runners of the night as the top 3 positions were heat winners. #21 Darren DeLoach picked up his first win this season in a big way. DeLoach grabbed the lead before the halfway point and was running away at the finish. #2d Dwayne Dechant came in 2nd after gaining the position from #42 John Fabrizius who finished 3 rd. #73 Nick Tubbs finished 4 th, the position he ran in for most of the race. #55 Wheat Lippelmann was running in the top 5 all race until a late race restart where #33M Dustin Daniels was able to use the bottom groove and get past him for 5 th. #86 Justin Beakley gained 6 positions to finish 7th. #4s David Schemm, #44 Kevin Hoeme and #21Z Mark Zorn rounded out the top ten. Zorn competed in his brother’s car the #16z of Jeremy Zorn after his car developed mechanical problems. Twenty-five cars were on hand and 20 made the main event after a B main narrowed the field.

Stocks

The stock car class again satisfied the racing crowd with very close racing right down to the finish in their heat races. The main had a different look with #01 Mike Meyer getting out of traffic first and gaining some distance from the rest of the field. #30s Brent Beckman finished 2nd. #9 Randy Tipton and #37 Jason Rogers were trying to get passed Beckman at the checkers. #32 Lloyd Meeske was 5th. Two drivers’ first time at Colby this year found them finishing 6th and 7th, #44 Derrick Broadaway and #30 Tom Nelson. Nine cars started the main.

Bombers

Travis Branum #3rt continued to gain momentum since destroying his car in the first race of the season. He won his heat, cash dash, and also the main for a clean sweep of the evening’s races. #25 Jeremey Blackwill finished a very close 2nd. #00 Raymond Dechant came in 3 rd. #69 Matt Giesenhagen recovered from a broken axle in his heat to finish 4 th, #3m Brent Moss and #00b Jake Haines finished 5th and 6th. The race for 3rd was the one to watch as it came down to the checkered flag. Eleven cars started the main with all finishing.

ECONOS

Justin Colby #17 gained one position from his second place finish the last race to win the econo main event. #31 Alex West finished 2nd with #11 JR Wolfrum and #11h Marshall Hoppe who had been fighting it out all night finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. #4 Lee Hagman grabbed 5th and #13 Richard Pummer who had the lead after an amazing slingshot move off the backstretch wall, went too high in turn one, and ended up 6th.
