May 21, 2006 - Colby , KS --Racing fans were in for a great night of racing at the Thomas County Speedway in Colby , KS . The weather did not play a factor for the racing but the wind did get to town shortly after the final main. After a very tacky track the first race of the season the drivers had to setup for a dry-slick track on Sunday.

Modifieds

In heat one #34H Doug Holzmeister was running to the front only to lose a motor and was not able to return for the Main. In heat two #73 Nick Tubbs was gunning for the lead but then smoke started to appear from his car with him dropping to the rear on the final lap. Heat three saw two former super stock drivers chasing down the checkered with #41 Ronnie Hill outdistancing #86 Justen Beakley. Twenty-two cars started the main which had to be restarted once due to #98 Eddie Edwards getting a little too much of a jump on the green. #3 Brady Coen took the lead and never looked back to get his First Victory of the year. #38 KB Murphy was a close second the whole race with Justen Beakley and #55 Wheat Lippelmann both showing what they can do after moving up a class this year. The two biggest movers of the race were #33m of Dustin Daniels and #21Z Mark Zorn finishing 5th and 6th.

Stocks

The heat race for the Stocks was very interesting as #37 Jason Rogers making his first start of the season at Colby went from the rear to front. The action was tight with some pretty aggressive racing which also makes this class a crowd favorite. After the checkers #30S Brent Beckman let #3 Travis Towns know that he thought it was a little out of hand. In the main #37 Jason Rogers was looking for the clean sweep but could only get to 2nd before #01 Mike Meyer and #3 Travis Towns got around on the outside. They were all chasing #9 Randy Tipton who got a great start and a great finish.

Bombers

Heat one found #3rt Travis Branum getting the win with a new car after destroying his original car in the first race of the year. Heat two was a dogfight with #69 Matt Giesenhagen using a lap car as a pick to get around #11x Ron Haremza for the win.

In the main #3rt Travis Branum tried to hold off #25 Jeremey Blackwill but once Blackwill found the high groove he got passed him for the win. #00Buckshot Jake Haines, #3m Brent Moss, and #69 Matt Giesenhagen rounded out the top 5.

Econos

#11H Marshall Hoppe used the extreme top groove to take the lead and the win in the econo main. #17 Justin Colby came in 2nd and #31 Alex West finished 3rd with #74 Brandon Nemecheck and #71 Josh Colby rounding out the top five, The crowd was watching Hoppe every lap to see how high he could get in turn one and two. #13 Richard Plummer did find the backside of turn one and two and then gave us a view of the bottom of his car as he re-entered the track. He returned for a 6th place finish.

The next races are scheduled for Sunday June 4th. At 7:00pm . Please join us for another great night of racing!
