May 20, 2007 Colby , KS . –The clouds looked threatening for the second race of the Thomas County Speedway season but no rain came on Sunday. The slight changes to the track this spring really widened the racing groove and made for some great side by side action. April Howard from Eugene, Oregon sang the national anthem and also ran in the stock class.
Modifieds
The Modified class put on a tremendous race for second position. Fortunately for #42 John Fabrizius he started on the pole and used that to stay in front of the three way battle for second to get the win. Jeff Tubbs #37 held off strong charges from #2d Dwayne Dechant and #21 Darren Deloach until the last lap when Deloach snagged 2nd off of turn four. Tubbs finished 3rd and Dechant 4th. Ronnie Hill #41 was a close 5th with #10 Chris Remetes and #737 Nick Tubbs finishing sixth and seventh.
Stock Cars
Angel Munoz #95 had to fight through traffic to get the win in the Stock class. Jason Stephens #77 started outside pole and led much of the race before Munoz and #8 Ryan Wark snuck past him. Stevens had to pull in with a shredded left rear tire which may have cost him the win. Wark finished 2nd and #01 Mike Meyers was 3rd after missing the heats and starting in the back of the pack for the main. Derrick Braudaway #44 was a close 4th. April Howard #25 finished 5th.
Bombers
Brian Morris #8 had a great showing after having some bad luck the first race of the season. Morris started on the pole due to his bad luck 2 weeks ago and used that to keep the lead. Matt Morris #21m and #3rt Travis Branum started in the third row and fought each other up through the field with Matt Morris getting 2nd and Branum 3rd. Raymond Decant was 4th and #27 Adam Morris 5th. Mike Giesenhagen #111 and #38 Allen Kurth finished sixth and seventh.
Econos
For the second race in a row there was a top finisher stripped of their finish for a rules violation. Travis Glassman #16 took the checkered flag but was found illegal, that gave the win to #10f Chad Fields. Lee Hagman #4 was 2nd #11 JR Wolfrum 3rd and #c8 Chris Hildebrand 4th, #79 Hoss Jones 5th. Last weeks winner #99 Dusty Knox and #13 Richard Pummer both had trouble in turn four with Knox hitting the retaining wall very hard and bouncing back onto the track with all four tires flat and possibly totaling the race car.
